At a young age Darby was moved by the struggles and persecution wolves in the wild were facing, to the point she insisted to her mom that “saving the wolves” was her purpose in life. While pursuing other things since then such as athletics, an undergraduate in Kinesiology and an art career, her love for animals and the natural world remained as key values in her life. Her love for the wild and passion for reconnection to the land has led her to the Yukon, working and living on a farm, tree planting and now here to our sanctuary. She can now happily say she is living a childhood dream come true by helping care for wolfdogs. Darby believes the stars truly aligned for her when receiving the offer to work at Yamnuska, after meeting Georgina and getting to know the sanctuary more she has truly been inspired. Darby is eager to learn from these remarkable animals and to educate people about wolves and wolfdogs, bridging the understanding between wolves and humans.
