Interpreter & Animal Care Specialist

Ben has always had a thing for the outdoors. As a kid, he spent as much time outside doing anything, be it camping, hiking, or even just exploring and observing the flora and fauna around him. He developed a fascination with bears and wolves especially and wanted to learn everything he could about them.

This later led to some time studying Biology and Mammalogy, where he wrote a paper on wolves as a keystone indicator for thriving ecosystems, and the benefits of bringing back populations into affected areas. It was through research that he heard of the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary.

He then started working a variety of strangely unique jobs. Everything from ski lift maintenance to zipline guiding to being an off-road bear photography tour guide. When he saw that there was an opportunity to join the pack at the sanctuary, he jumped at the opportunity, packed up his Subaru and drove all the way from the West Coast to Alberta.

In his spare time Ben still enjoys hiking and climbing, camping, mountaineering, skiing and snowboarding, baseball and hockey, and getting used to the Chinook climate.
